Bush Apologizes for Phone Taps After 9/11
by Scott Ott

(2005-12-16) — President George Bush today apologized to the American people for signing an order in 2002 that allowed the National Security Agency (NSA) to secretly listen in on international phone calls in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.

[Read the whole thing here.]

“My biggest regret,” the president added, “is that the NSA didn’t secretly tap these lines before 9/11. I hope my fellow Americans can forgive me.”

I'm late to the party on this (Thank TypePad) so I won't try to do much but point you to some other good coverage on the matter, but it's too important not to mention at all. Read these:

Michelle Malkin: Red Alert, Chicken Littles On The Loose

John Hinderaker: Let's Send These Guys to Jail

Greyhawk: Lack of Intelligence

Ed Morrissey: NSA Snoops And PATRIOT Acts = 4 Years Of No Attacks?

Jeff Goldstein: Rice Denies U.S. Broke Law Amid Report Bush Authorized Spying

Jay Stephenson: ACLU Shocked at Bush Use of National Security Agency for Domestic Spying

La Shawn Barber: Victory for Islamofascist Cells!

Bottom line here, folks? It's the NY Times and some traitors within the CIA putting their hatred of George Bush ahead of the welfare of the country again. First of all, no crime was committed by the President or NSA, and what was done shouldn't be a crime. Some communications between the US and terrorist elements outside the country were monitored and the information was used to help prevent more terrorist attacks. Crimes were committed by several CIA agents, who deserve to be tracked down and jailed for life. It's time for George Bush to tell the Justice Department to put an end to the constant leaks from the CIA before they do more harm than they already have.
