The following is my translation of a headline and article in the July 6th. Edition of the Iraqi Arabic newspaper “Shabab Al Iraq”

Hundreds of Iraqis demonstrate against terrorism in Mosul

Hundreds of Iraqis gathered in Alqiar area south of Mosul in a demonstration showing opposition to terrorists and terrorism. About 1500 civilians & military Iraqis from cities and villages in southern Mosul joined the demonstration to denunciate terrorism in their areas. Religious leaders, imams and government employees initiated the demonstration after they realized the need to express their public opposition to terrorism.

This demonstration met its goal to show that many Iraqis oppose the terrorists and that the will of the Iraqi people will defeat terrorism in Iraq.

My comments:

I wish to point out that the southern Mosul area of Iraq is predominantly Sunni Arab. Remember the Screaming Eagles (The 101st Army Airborne) surrounded and killed Uday & Qusay Hussein (Saddam’s sons) and arrested hundreds of former Baathist criminals in Mosul. Mosul is also were a terrorist blew him self up in a U.S. mess hall. It is obvious that Mosul was a terrorist hot bed as well as a former pro Saddam strong hold.

A turnaround of attitude has taken place along with the recognition that terrorism leads to defeat and loss of representation and legitimacy. This fundamental change in the common Sunni Arab’s attitude is drying up the recruiting grounds for the terrorists, and showing that the terrorist are not representing Iraqis nor are they fighting for Iraq. Iraqis realize that terrorist stand in the way of freedom, democracy & a better life. We are obviously making great headways in defeating terrorist in Iraq.  We are obviously making great headways in bringing democracy to Iraq. The terrorists are obviously on their last legs and once again you will not read or hear this in our mainstream media.

My thoughts: There are two types of people in this country, those who think Iraq is a hopeless "quagmire" and those who have been paying attention.
