Well, while I've been trying to figure out how to get something started, some other people have obviously been busy. As I noted here, here and here,  there are at least two Senators, one a Republican and one a Democrat, who agree with me it's time for some changes. While I don't think the bill Senators Sessions and Lieberman say they want to enact goes far enough, I think it's a major step in the right direction and the thing to do at this point it to help drum up support for it and worry about fine-tuning it later. (I'll publish a post sometime soon with some thoughts on what could be done to improve the  bill -- Reader comments on that subject more than welcome.) My blogging is going to be light to non-existent for the next day or two while I'm busy sending emails and making phone calls trying to stir up public support for doing right by the families of our warriors who make the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. while I'm doing that, I hope everyone reading this will be doing the same. Among other things you can do:

• Check out SgtMgr's post here for information on contacting your Senators and Representatives, then get busy letting them know that you want them to support the "HEROES Act" sponsored by Senators Lieberman and Sessions.

• Call and/or write your local radio and TV stations and your local newspapers to make sure they know you consider this subject newsworthy and expect them to cover it.

• Email your friends and family and ask them to do both of the things I just mentioned.

• If you blog, please make sure your readers are aware of this important piece of legislation, then keep them up to date.

• If you have any other good ideas for helping get the HEROES Act passed, please leave a comment or send me and email so I can pass the information on to others.

This will not be my last post on this by any means, but I have some calls to make and some emails to send before I do any more blogging.  Later, all.
