GOE Leader’s Report On Counter-Protest Week In D.C. Bruce Kesler
My friend Larry Bailey wrote the below after-action report on his organization’s week in Washington, D.C. The Gathering Of Eagles and other patriotic organizations countered the failed culmination to the Left’s so-called “Iraq summer” meant to undermine America’s support for success in Iraq. Bailey, a retired Navy Captain, former Commanding Officer of the Naval Special Warfare Center, where SEALs undergo training, demonstrates why no one can beat a SEAL. You'll also note that no one can beat a man with a hearty sense of humor. Here’s the after-action report: ...

Senate kills bid to curb deployment S.A. Miller
Senate Republicans yesterday blocked a bid by Democrats to restrict troop-deployment schedules for a second time, saying it would impede the ability of President Bush and generals to wage the war in Iraq.
"The majority has brought this back in order to reduce the numbers of fully trained and combat-experienced troops available to our military commanders and thus to force an accelerated drawdown of troops and units in Iraq and Afghanistan. Let's be honest about this," said Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican and presidential aspirant.
The troop-deployment measure, which would have required troops to get "dwell time" at home equal to time deployed overseas, died 56-44, falling four votes shy of the 60 needed to pass, ...
Senate Votes to Condemn MoveOn for Ad Attacking General Petraeus
WASHINGTON — The Senate on Thursday overwhelmingly passed a measure condemning MoveOn.org for a newspaper ad it ran last week attacking Gen. David Petraeus. The move came as President Bush accused Democrats of cowering to the liberal political action group.
The measure passed in a 72-25 vote, with none of the Democratic presidential candidates supporting it. Sponsored by Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn never one to shy away from forcing Democrats to go on record on politically sticky issues, the amendment to the defense authorization bill did win the backing of 23 Democrats.
Sens. Joe Biden and Barack Obama were absent from the vote, though Obama had voted 20 minutes earlier on a Democratic effort to circumvent the amendment. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Chris Dodd voted against the measure. ...

Democratic Fundraiser Norman Hsu Faces Federal Campaign Finance, Fraud Charges
NEW YORK — Federal prosecutors unsealed a criminal complaint Thursday charging Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu with breaking campaign finance laws and creating a "massive" Ponzi scheme.
The complaint says Hsu -- who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton and others -- violated campaign finance laws by making contributions to candidates in other people's names and perpetrated a Ponzi scheme to defraud victims across the United States of more than $60 million.

Yale Law to allow military recruiters
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale Law School will end its policy of not working with military recruiters following a court ruling this week that jeopardized about $300 million in federal funding, school officials said Wednesday.
Yale and other universities had objected to the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy that allows gay men and women to serve in the military only if they keep their sexual orientation to themselves. Yale Law School had refused to assist military recruiters because the Pentagon wouldn't sign a nondiscrimination pledge.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Yale on Monday, rejecting its argument that its right to academic freedom was infringed by federal law that says universities must give the military the same access as other job recruiters or forfeit federal money. ...
