There's nothing cold as ashes -- Part 2

Continued from There's nothing cold as ashes, after the fire is gone. Now that I've admitted the magic's gone this may become an ongoing series.

Bush’s response to immigration question makes 13-year-old girl cry
Allahpundit

She must be a Republican.

“Mr. President, I know immigration has been a big problem in the U.S. And what is your next step with the immigration bill?” Jessica asked Mr. Bush, during a question and answer period after a speech Mr. Bush gave to a Cleveland business group.

Mr. Bush’s sarcastic reply — a wry “yeah, thanks” — drew laughter from the crowd of 400. But the attention caused young Jessica, who characterized herself in an interview afterward as very shy, to immediately tear up. ...

I don't quite see what the big deal is. One can just as easily read his comment as being self-deprecatory, a wry comment on his own chagrin at the political loss. In that case, it was not directed at the young lady (and he seemed very quick to sense her mood and try to make her feel better) but at himself. Or at least, the situation. And she reacted the way many overly self-conscious teenagers would. I teach this age group. They are completely ego-centric and filter everything through the perception of how they look to others. Given that, she could have easily misunderstood the comment as being directed towards her.

Personally, I'm a bit tired of the trouncing President Bush is receiving at the hands of his own party. I don't believe he's perfect, nor do I maintain that he has not made mistakes, but I do believe that many are simply being worn down by the constant, non-stop criticism he has received from the MSM and Hollywood. I continue to support him and remain proud that I voted for him in both elections.
